LLS Los Angeles – Gala Event
The Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which supports WAYS TO LIVE FOREVER, announced at last weekend’s Man & Woman of the Year gala that more than $575,000 had been raised for blood cancer research. The event, held at the Skirball Cultural Center, honored 19 candidates that had been involved in a 10-week fundraising competition, as well as soap opera star Jack Wagner, who has held seven annual celebrity golf tournaments benefiting LLS. Additionally the event, which was hosted by celebrity ambassador Nadia Bjorlin, honored pediatric cancer patients Brittany Lanham (14) and Nathaniel Loomis (4). The upcoming release of WAYS TO LIVE FOREVER was promoted at the event via standees that were placed in view of the attendees. Robbie Kay’s Charity Work with LLS
After playing the role of a brave leukemia patient in the upcoming film, WAYS TO LIVE FOREVER, British teen star Robbie Kay is now doing his part to support those affected by this form of cancer by volunteering with one of the film’s official supporters, theLeukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Affiliated with the LLS’ Gulf Coast chapter in recent months, Kay has been lending a hand in various capacities, including working in the office. Inspired by the LLS’ Team in Training department (which organizes fundraising sporting events and supports participants during their preparation), Kay and his father are planning to join Bike The West’s 22nd Annual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride, a 72-mile cycling race around Lake Tahoe, CA, on Sunday, June 2.
Additionally, Kay (pictured above) organized and hosted a touch rugby tournament at his Houston-area school this month and raised more than $1,100. His efforts involved captaining and training his own school’s team, communicating with other teams to encourage their participation, arranging a barbecue and snack shack, and scheduling the day's activities. Gratified by the experience, Kay is looking forward to finding additional opportunities to volunteer with LLS.
