On April 29th 1933, country star Willie Nelson was born and today we celebrate another special year! Not only has this singer and songwriter touched the hearts of many people through his hit songs like Crazy and On The Road Again but he has also extended his compassion to helping the animal kingdom. Nelson has been involved in various animal welfare groups like, Best Friends Animal Society and Animal Welfare Institute. He recorded the song Wild Horses to benefit the cause and show support. Not only did Willie Nelson make a huge contribution to the animal kingdom he also made a huge impact with movie fans all over the world with his broad range of acting skills.

Throughout his career, Willie Nelson has been in over 30 films ranging from Western classics like, Once Upon A Texas Train and Barbarosa to crime dramas such as Pair of Aces and Songwriter. His highest grossing film was the romantic drama Honeysuckle Rose, directed by Jerry Schatzberg. Nelson plays a country singer on the road caught in a love triangle between Dyan Cannon and Amy Irving. A few personal favorite films have to be The Big Bounce starring actors such as Owen Wilson, and Morgan Freeman and also the well known classic Welcome to Eden. After the huge success of his album Stardust in 1993, Nelson managed to get inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. This multi-faceted, American-born singer, actor, and activist has been deemed one of the most recognized artists in country music. Just last month, he was invited as a special guest to Asleep at the Wheel bandleader Ray Benson’s Birthday Bash in Austin on a Tuesday night. He opened his set with “Whiskey River,” and teamed with Benson on the Townes van Zandt classic,”Pancho & Lefty.”

Singer-songwriter Willie Nelson started writing his first song at the age of seven, and in 1973 Atlantic Records signed him on. He uses a variety of music styles in his country songs which set him apart from others - a hybrid of jazz, pop, blues, rock, and folk. He also has 12 Grammy Awards under his belt from being the hit sensation of the country genre. Though he was on track to becoming the talk of the town, all of his success would not have come about if not for all the sacrifices that he made. He worked a variety of jobs - from a radio announcer and singer in a Vancouver club to a dishwasher, and finally to selling bibles and vacuum cleaners door-to-door. He persevered and was successful in his career.

Besides all of the successes that Willie Nelson has had in his lifetime, his acting really took off with his debut film in 1979, The Electric Horseman. The “On The Road Again” singer is confirmed to appear in a small role in the sequel to the 2001 comedy film.

In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, musician Willie Nelson confirmed that he had been invited to join Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller on location of the new film in Italy. The musician states that he and Wilson have been friends and neighbors throughout the years, regularly hanging out together at Nelson’s home in Maui playing poker and chess. Wilson personally invited Nelson to join the filming, and Nelson agreed without hesitation.

The Oscar-nominee and Grammy Award winner has been in numerous films, such as “Stagecoach”, “Red Headed Stranger”, and “Barbarosa”.

Nelson is also a large advocate for human and animal rights. He advocated against the eviction of immigrant farmers and destruction of the largest urban farm in America in the 2009 documentary film, “Welcome to Eden”. Nelson has rescued and rehabilitated over 70 horses headed to slaughter as well.

Willie Nelson recently released “It's A Long Story: My Life”, an autobiography about the musician and songwriter’s story.

The 42nd edition of Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic will also take place in Austin, Texas at the Circuit of The Americas’ Austin360 Amphitheater this year.

“Zoolander 2” is set to open in February 2016. Willie Nelson will not be the only big name to be a part of the comedy sequel, as the musician is set to star alongside Will Ferrell, Olivia Munn, Kristen Wiig, Fred Armisen, Penelope Cruz, and Justin Bieber.

Happy Birthday to the great Willie Nelson!  This world-class musician is an amazing person due to his songwriting talent and his many humanitarian pursuits. He has supported many issues, especially those dealing with farming practices. Willie Nelson also established Farm Aid back in 1985, an organization which raises awareness of families losing their farms and encourages donations to help these families keep their land.

More recently, he fought to keep a local farm in downtown LA from being bulldozed for a warehouse, as presented in the documentary, Welcome to Eden. In the doc, Willie Nelson, Joan Baez, Daryl Hannah, and other celebrities try unsuccessfully to save the farm from being evicted by Ralph Horowitz, a land developer, who bought the land from the Los Angeles City Council through questionable back-room deals.

The public has the power to protect farms by giving input by December 14th, 2014 on the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), a first step towards modernizing food regulations since 1938. The FDA currently regulates farms that grow fresh produce and provide the facilities to process food for consumption, to make sure they aren’t going to kill anyone, but they don’t prevent care about foreign contamination.  In this new resolution they shift priority, for the FDA, from regulation to preventing contamination as well.

Willie Nelson is a great man who continues to do good in the world and provide soul soothing music.

This week, Jimmy Kimmel Live filmed in Austin, Texas, and the host teamed up with Willie Nelson for a musical number. As a tribute to the city, the duo sang “To Austin, I Can’t Love You More,” to close out the show. Some memorable lyrics include, “to all the Lone Star Beers I drank” and how “traffic didn’t flow” but they couldn’t “love Austin more.”

Willie Nelson and Kimmel highlight the unique people of Austin, Texas from the “bearded men” to the “freaks on 6th street” that enjoy a variety of unusual foods, including breakfast tacos to deep fried deviled eggs. Jimmy Kimmel mostly wanted to convey his gratitude for all the kindness he received while working in the beautiful city of Austin.

Many talk show hosts including Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have also hosted their shows in Austin to inform the public of certain political and social issues that are ongoing. While most of the state of Texas has a higher population of Republican voters, Austin is very Democratic in viewpoint.

Willie Nelson, one of the celebrity activists featured in the documentary Welcome to Eden from World Wide Motion Pictures Corporation, will be starring in a action adventure film titled, Waiting For a Miracle to Come. Another huge name in the music industry has also been linked with the project; legendary British rock group U2’s frontman Bono has been named the executive producer of the project, and will also be writing the film’s musical soundtrack. In 1989, Bono wrote “Slow Dancing” for Nelson, and U2 included the song on their 2011 Duals fan club album.

Nelson, alongside highly acclaimed British actress Charlotte Rampling, portray a pair of retired vaudeville stars who teach a young trapeze artist that there are other things in life more valuable than chasing gold. Waiting For a Miracle has been written and directed by Australian filmmaker Lian Lunson. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Lunson stated, "I wrote this script for Willie Nelson; his presence and stillness as an actor is unlike anyone else…. And growing up I always wanted to be Charlotte Rampling, so bringing these two icons together on screen is a dream come true for me."  Lunson also directed the documentary, Leonard Cohen I'm Your Man, featuring Bono.

Widely known for his patriotic songwriting and iconic stage presence, Willie Nelson, who turned 81 this year, has also accumulated a film career spanning over 5 decades. Nelson first starred in The Electric Horseman in 1979, and has since starred in a myriad of box office hits such as Honeysuckle Rose, Barbarosa, Wag the Dog (New Line Platinum Series (1997), and Dukes of Hazzard (Rated). Willie Nelson also made his presence known in the World Wide Motion Pictures Corporation documentary, Welcome to Eden, speaking on behalf of the South Central Urban Farm’s right to exist.

Film production for Waiting for A Miracle to Come begins on Willie Nelson’s private Texas Ranch in March of 2015.

Documenting the events from the viewpoints of Willie Nelson, Joan Baez, and Daryl Hannah, the latter of whom was arrested during the eviction in solidarity with immigrant farmers, the film captures the raw emotion that surrounded the scene in the time leading up to the farm’s end.

The story of South Central Urban Farm is complicated and in many ways dependent on perspective. While The Garden depicts the events from the point-of-view of the three interests involved in the drama – the urban farmers, the original land-rights owner Ralph Horowitz, and The City of Los Angeles, Welcome To Eden specifically showcases the battle through the eyes of the farmer activists and their celebrity allies. Unfortunately, in 2006, the farmers lost the battle to Horowitz and the land was bulldozed. Today, after stalled talks between Horowitz and both Wal-Mart and Forever 21, the lot remains vacant.
