Lady Bird

Oscar-nominated, critically-acclaimed Lady Bird is all about the sometimes-difficult relationship between a mother and daughter. Christine, AKA Lady Bird, played by Saoirse Ronan, is a high school senior, who is anxious to leave her life in Sacramento, excited to head off to college where she hopes to find her true self. She and her mom, Marion, played by Laurie Metcalf, seem to constantly disagree as Lady Bird discovers her passions and aspirations in life. If you, yourself, are preparing to leave the nest soon, prepare to how relatable the bittersweet feeling both characters experience will be for you and your mom.

Mamma Mia!

This Mother’s Day re-watch the original Mamma Mia! musical to prepare for the sequel that is coming out this July. Mamma Mia! Is the story of a young woman, Sophie, played by Amanda Seyfried, who is about to be married. She discovers that any one of three men (played by Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgård) could be her father, so she invites them all to the wedding without her mom (played by Meryl Streep) knowing. Watching Mamma Mia! guarantees lots of laughter, dancing, and singing to all your favorite ABBA classics!

Terms of Endearment

Terms of Endearment is the 1984 Academy Award winner for Best Picture, which follows the seemingly divergent but intertwining lives of Aurora Greenaway (Shirley MacLaine) and her daughter Emma ( Debra Winger). Aurora and Emma are mother and daughter who march to different drummers. Beginning with Emma's marriage, Aurora shows how difficult and loving she can be. The movie covers several years of their lives during which it seems like the love-hate relationship between Aurora and Emma would last a lifetime — that is, until cancer strikes one of them and ends with heart-wrenching goodbyes.

Erin Brockovich
Erin Brockovich, played by Julia Roberts, is the ultimate no-nonsense single mother of three. Erin Brockovich is a real-life legal activist and an unemployed single mother, who almost single-handedly brings down a California power company accused of polluting a city's water supply. Supporting actors include Albert Finney, who plays Erin's grumpy boss, and Aaron Eckhart who is her kind-hearted motorcycle-riding boyfriend. Through her struggles and triumphs, this superwoman of a mother manages to single-handedly expose the corruption of a multi-billion-dollar corporation, with a baby on her hip. She's an inspiration to moms everywhere!
