On August 7th, 2011, National Sisters’ day became an unofficial holiday and was celebrated for the first time. It has been recognized annually ever since. The day acknowledges the strong bond people share with their sisters and encourages them to celebrate the special relationship. Studies from Brigham Young University actually show that sisters give siblings better mental health. In the film, Red Roses and Petrol, younger sister Medbh (Heather Juergensen) can be seen as a caretaker for her mother as well as an anchor that keeps her siblings together. Her brother, Johnny is an out of control playboy who spends his time drinking and doing as he pleases. However, with Medbh, Johnny is a loving, wise individual who cares deeply for his family. When older sister, Catherine (Susan Lynch), returns home with her new fiancé Tom, Medbh is reminded of her position and that she has not yet experienced the world in the same way. This shows the sacrifice she makes for her family. It also proves her ability to bring independent Catherine back home after years of being away. A day like Sisters’ day encourages us to show appreciation for the strength and compassion our own sisters give us. It is a “thank you” for those like the character Medbh who strive to show their families why they need to depend on each other. It is a celebration of a very integral part of family.

Although there are deeply rooted issues in the Doyle family, the importance of a sister like Medbh is easy to recognize. There may be some jealousy with her sister, Catherine, but she loves her regardless and would clearly do anything for her. It is often those who are closest to us and challenge us the most will become a source of tension at times. Still, there is nothing like a bond between siblings. Many of us have sisters who know us better than anyone. This year, National Sisters’ Day will be held on August 5th, as it is celebrated the first Sunday of every August. Susan lynch is making her name known to the world as the actress continues to amaze fans with her wide range of acting skills. This past year has been very successful for Lynch with the renewal of Killing Eve season 2. This thriller is about a whip-smart security services operative named Eve played by Sandra Oh whose desk job doesn’t fulfill her fantasies of being a spy and about an assassin named Villanelle played by Jodie Comer who loves what she does.This show was said to “undermine every rule of TV” with it’s sex appeal and looming threat of violence around every corner. The show itself sheds light on femininity and the literal dangers of underestimating women. Susan plays the character of Anna, the first woman that Villanelle killed and castrated a man for. However, there’s an interesting twist so if your a fan of action thrillers make sure you check it out.

Susan also starred in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One. This science fiction action adventure movie amazed the audiences that watched it with its hilarious references to Spielberg’s other movies. The film is set in the future where the world is on the brink of chaos and collapse. You may recognize Lynch as Alice, aunt to the main character Tye Sheridan. This film is so refreshing because its set in a virtual reality universe called the Oasis where anything is possible. If you're a fan of Sci-Fi virtual adventures, then this is the movie for you.

Helen Cooper, Mrs. Silverman, and the great Medbh Doyle from Red Roses and Petrol are all characters that were portrayed by the amazing actress Heather Juergensen. All throughout her career she managed to create some beautiful work as an actress. Ms. Juergensen left us with quality work to relive over and over again on screen.

She appears in movies such as The Hammer, Kissing Jessica Stein, The Haunted Mansion, and our very own Red Roses and Patrol. All are quality films in which she worked aside actors such as Jennifer Westfeldt, Malcolm McDowell, and the great Eddie Murphy. It is also good to mention that she has worked aside some very talented directors such as Rob Minkoff and Charles Herman-Wurmfeld -- directors of The Haunted House and The Hammer.

Though many of us would have loved to have seen more of her wonderful performances - like the one in Red Roses and Patrol also starring Malcolm McDowell - today she is focusing her attention on other important things.

Heather founded her very own business called The Strong Woman, which primarily focuses on improving the lives of women that have previously suffered from depression. Many might not know, but like many other celebrities, Mrs. Juergensen suffered from depression herself. We want to acknowledge and congratulate Mrs. Juergensen’s determination to move forward and celebrate the gift of life. Life is a team sport, and with support from others life can truly be extraordinary.

Today on Mrs. Juergensen’s birthday, we want to say Happy Birthday! On this day we would love to give you an amazing gift, but you already have the most important gift of all - life, health, and an amazing family. Once more, happy birthday!

Director Tamar Simon Hoffs became the first woman to receive the triple director, writer, producer credit in 1987 for The Allnighter, a major studio feature film. Hoffs began her directing career when she was selected to participate in the American Film Institute's Directing Workshop for Women in 1980. She debuted a short film, The Haircut, starring John Cassavetes which was later acquired by Universal Studios in 1983. The film went on to be the official selection at Cannes Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, Toronto Film Festival, and Sundance Film Festival.

According to San Diego State’s Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film, presented by the Hollywood Reporter, women make up only 7% of all directors on the top 250 films. As an established filmmaker, Tamar Simon Hoffs is a great inspiration for women in the industry and I had the pleasure to speak with her. To make it in the film industry, Hoffs advised women to get involved in film festivals and make short, quality films to establish a reputation. Hoffs also advised that your work must be personal and you must love what you do; if not, it is just a lot of work.

Today, Tamar Simon Hoffs is best known for directing independent films Red Roses and Petrol (2003) and Pound of Flesh (2010), starring actor Malcolm McDowell. Red Roses and Petrol won first place at the Avignon Film Festival in 2005. It was also an official selection at AFI, Bangkok, Galway and Deauville Festivals, and Toronto’s Film Circuit.The Irish film is “a story about love, life, and loss… with a splash of whiskey,” and can be found on indiemoviestore.com.

The movie, Red Roses and Petrol revolves around the death of a family figurehead that reunites the dysfunctional family members. Malcolm McDowell (Enda Doyle) plays the role perfectly as a university librarian, poet, and an all-around complicated man that leaves the family very much scattered and drifted apart. The drama film, initially based off a stage play by Joseph O’ Conner (who is a successful Irish novelist), won multiple awards ranging from Avignon Film Festival to the Palm Springs Film Festival due to its captivating moments that stem from its family disputes and instability.

What the family could have looked like had Enda Doyle lived. Happily ever after!

Fast-forward 9 years from the theatrical release date of the film, these actors all have created a footprint in the industry and have are still pursuing great things. Malcolm McDowell will be co-hosting Broadway Barks, an annual event about a star-studded dog and cat adoption event that benefits New York City animal rescue groups whereas stars such as Olivia Tracey have taken more of a backseat route in producing films rather than acting in it.

What’s the craic?

Another year, and another Saint Patrick’s Day. The day of the year when Irish heritage, culture, and everything else Irish is celebrated.

Historically, this is the day Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland died. In his honor, March 17th has been celebrated by the Irish dating all the way back to early 17th century, and as of recent has become a day to celebrate and be merry around the world.

Usually, this day is celebrated by spending the day with your family, feasting on corned beef and drinking Guinness, or wearing green or shamrocks. You may also want to attend and immerse yourself at the numerous parades and festivals that have crowded all the nearby streets and parks, in order to celebrate with other slightly inebriated individuals.

Now, if you are planning on celebrating this wonderful holiday, but the thought of jam-packed bars and parade-filled streets have you petrified and staying at home all day, then I hope you’re prepared with a fridge full of Guinness and a belly full of corned beef. Gangs of New York - A tall-tale of violence, corruption, and greed follow as Leonardo DiCaprio, the son of a dead Irish immigrant, returns to New York in the name of revenge and power. Do not be fooled by the constant violence and gore of this movie, as it also shows the struggles of Irish immigrants as they as they tried to settle down in New York. If you have an appetite for carnage, there is an extremely well-done battle scene between the armies of DiCaprio and Bill “The Butcher” who is exceptionally performed by Daniel Day-Lewis that should fill your appetite.

Boondock Saints - “It’s Saint Paddy’s day, everyone’s Irish tonight!” The story follows two poor Irish brothers in a crime-riddled Boston area. After killing some mafia members in self-defense, they find an appetite and a deep twisted pleasure for handing out justice to some of the main crime lords of Boston. Although this film originally did not receive a theater showing, the Boondock Saints film is now known as a cult classic through its extensive and very over-the-top violence.

The Departed - Starring the powerful trio of Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Matt Damon, The Departed follows the story of a crime boss in Boston (Nicholson) and two Irish descent policeman that work for him (Damon and DiCaprio). One of them is his mole, and the other has infiltrated his organization. Tune into this Scorsese masterpiece, which won him his first Best Director Oscar, to unravel the rest of this brilliant story.

Michael Collins - Starring Liam Neeson as Michael Collins himself, this movie is as patriotic as you can get for any Irish man or woman. Collins is a man infatuated with the vision of an independent Ireland, and he will stop at nothing in order to achieve this dream for his countrymen. A brutal and violent film, Michael Collins is captured beautifully through its wonderful cinematography. On February second in 1972, young Malcolm McDowell followed his cinematic debut with a role that he would be remembered by for the rest of his career. McDowell played the psychotic Alex in Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of A Clockwork Orange. The film, as well as Malcolm’s character, became cult classics. Since then, McDowell has followed up with an great variety of roles and performances. He's done it all, from video games (like Elder Scrolls online and Fallout 3), to television commercials (like his recent Lunchables campaign), to even voicing a number of characters for animations in television and film, not to mention all of his live action film and television roles.

As an actor, McDowell has played an array of differing personas. In his cinematic debut, If, McDowell plays a student that rebels against England’s oppressive school system. In Red Roses and Petrol (distributed by World Wide Motion Picture Corporation) McDowell plays the deceased Enda Doyle, an enigmatic father who left many problems for his dysfunctional family to deal with.

Evidently, McDowell is a busy actor whose talents have continued to grace various media formats since his cinematic debut.

Malcolm McDowell, the star of Red Roses And Petrol, has announced that he will be working once again with mega rock star and feature horror film director, Rob Zombie
. The frighteningly epic slash fest has been titled, 31. McDowell has worked with Zombie in his remakes of the Halloween franchise, playing Dr. Sam Loomis. One amazing fact about this project is that it has completely been funded 100% by fans on his own website, via RZ-31.

Zombie’s idea behind the project is based around the fact that more people go missing on October 31st than any other day of the year. In the film, five unlucky candidates are kidnapped and taken to an ominous facility named "Murder World". Once taken captive, the prisoners have to fight for their lives against a murderous crew of psychotic killer clowns that call themselves "The Heads". McDowell will portray the role of Father Murder, owner of Murder World. Film production has began on this project, but there are no release dates as of yet.
