STAND FOR THE SILENT an Anti-bullying organization

Bullying is a cultural epidemic that has been going on for ages, and it isn’t just something seen in the movies. Bullying affects people of all ages in a number of different ways and its effects on them can be long-lasting. Whether it be cyber bullying, physical, verbal, impulsive, pressure, and even corporate bullying, it can be hard for someone to stop and take action.

In schools across the country, one in five students is a victim of bullying. Kids who watch others be bullied and don’t step in often act this way because of fear. They may feel guilty and powerless for not doing anything about it. This is where Stand For The Silent comes into action.

Stand for the Silent is an organization that was started in 2010 by students at Oklahoma State University after they heard the story of Kirk and Laura Smalley’s son, Ty. At only eleven years of age, he had been bullied for two years. After getting suspended for retaliating against his bully, Ty took his own life. Kirk and Laura’s mission is to continue to change kids’ lives by bringing awareness from their story, as well as offering tools and education to help prevent another tragedy like this one from happening to a child and their family. Since 2010, they have reached over 1,308,000 kids in 1,210 schools across the country.

World Wide Motion Pictures Corporation is partnering up with Stand For The Silent for National Bullying Prevention Month, both supporting the release of the film Time for a Champion. Together, we believe that each and every single individual has a valuable contribution to make in the world and deserves to feel loved, included, and treated with respect. If you want to participate in this movement we encourage you to do so and Take The Pledge.

Daryl Hannah: Activist and Actress

daryl-hannah

Very few people are gifted with acting talent and given such a powerful platform to speak on issues affecting everyday people.

Daryl Hannah, who is 56 years old today, does both. Her activism over the years for the environment and natural resources of our planet have not only been remarkable but consistent.

Supporting over 15 charities throughout her decades-long acting career, it’s easy to see why she has earned such a name for herself in the Eco-activist community.

In the 2009 documentary, Welcome to Eden, we see Hannah fighting for the rights of inner-city Los Angelenos whose 14-acre urban farm in South Central was being taken by corporate land developers. When she wasn’t protesting by living in one of the trees on the farm land, she was speaking out and rallying the passionate farmers to keep their tiny farm. Every fight might not be monumental, but each one is important.

Several years later, in February of 2013, Daryl Hannah was arrested while protesting outside of the White House to block the Keystone XL pipeline. Alongside other celebrities, Eco-activists, and political officials Hannah was outspoken about her distrust of the Canada to Texas pipeline which was taking the land from private citizens through eminent domain.

“I was peacefully protesting the unwanted advances of Trans-Canada on Eleanor Fairchild's land,” Hannah told KTLV. “[Ms. Fairchild] has stated very clearly that she doesn't want them there and they insist on bullying her and taking away her land through eminent domain.”

Not only has she protested various unethical and not environmentally friendly policies, she started her own environmental news website dhlovelife.com which also offers tips and products for people trying to lead a green life. Instead of simply opposing negative developments in the Eco world she decided to provide positive push-back.

“I was trying to get off the grid and overhaul my lifestyle so it was more in harmony with my ethics—it was quite difficult to find reliable information and access to goods and services,” Hannah said in an interview with Mother Earth Living. “So I had the thought to create the portal I wished existed.”

Aside from her website Daryl Hannah also built her own green home and maintains her own home garden.

Happy Birthday to this activist who continues to use her limelight to peacefully protest and challenge the status quo in power. Keep rocking on Daryl Hannah!

Top Thanksgiving Films to Watch with Family

Thanksgiving is a special time to be thankful for loving families, caring friends, and all the gifts of life we’re lucky to have. It is a day when family and friends gather to break bread and celebrate the gift of the harvest and the miracle of life. A better way to commemorate the great American holiday is to add in a lineup of Thanksgiving films. Although they’re not all centered around the traditional dining table, these films do have one thing in common which are reminders that we can be thankful for lots of things. Either Thanksgiving or any time of the year; these heartwarming classics will remind you to be thankful after enjoying a delicious turkey and stuffing.

An all-time classic, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973) is an excellent holiday special for family and friends to enjoy the story of Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang truly learning the meaning of Thanksgiving.

The 1987 holiday classic Planes, Trains, and Automobiles tells the story of Neal (played by Steve Martin), a Chicago advertising man and Del (played by John Candy), a traveling salesman from Chicago who sells shower curtain rings. Both of these men are in Manhattan two days before Thanksgiving, and both want to get home for the holidays. They butt heads along the way but they were fated to travel together.plane-train-auto

Grab a box of tissues because this film starring Sandra Bullock will put you in tears. The Blind Side (2009) is a must see Thanksgiving film. It is the story of Michael Oher, a gifted boy from the poorest area of Memphis. He is found and adopted by the Tuohy’s, a wealthy family. The first weekend that Michael spends with the Tuohy’s is Thanksgiving weekend. The audience gets the feeling that eating Thanksgiving around a family table is something he has longed for his entire life

These Thanksgiving films are an important reminder of what the holiday is all about: feeding our souls. Certainly, the food is great and there’s usually a lot of it, but we join around a table to give thanks for the lives we have and family and friends with whom we share those lives. No matter who makes the Thanksgiving dinner, we hope that you have a heartwarming, soul-satisfying day with your friends and family. Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours.

Revisit STRANGER THINGS this Halloween

It’s the spookiest time of the year and it is hard for us not to reminisce about one of the hottest sci-fi horror shows of Summer 2016. When the government starts performing some lab tests in secrecy and a small town boy goes missing, we’re usually in for a fishy scenario yet thrilling plot for a show. A mysterious sci-fi horror, with a retro feel, throwing it back to 1983, Stranger Things injected new life to a generally predictable genre. The root of their success was derived from the little things that they did throughout the show. With a constant flow of references to some of our favorite and most memorable 80’s movies such as E.T., Star Wars, Alien, and plenty more, it was hard not to feel a sense of nostalgia and reminisce about the past. With a more than competent cast, beautiful cinematography, and an engaging plot which was well-paced throughout the show, Stranger Things did not disappoint and had fans asking for more.

Now if you felt that there were still some questions that were left on the table unanswered, or if the eight-episode season just seemed too short to fully immerse yourself in the show, worry not because your wishes have come true, my friend. Stranger Things is now approved and working towards a second season, and the producers have mentioned that it would be more of a sequel to the first season rather than a continuation of the current storyline. This should allow for explanation and revelation of some of the mysteries that were left unanswered by the end of season one.

If you enjoyed this thrilling horror series, go check out one of WWMPC’s own thrillers in the form of a mysterious horror film that is Real Killers, where the James brothers are on the loose again, out and about trying to claim new victims.

7 Ways To Stop Stress on Stress Awareness Day

You didn’t study for your exam. You’re running late to work. You forgot your kid's homework packet at home. Can you feel your blood pressure rising? Stress. That’s what that is, and even the best of us occasionally find ourselves getting caught up in the hurried nature of life.

In the film Ways to Live Forever, both of the parents struggle through their son’s cancer treatment which is taxing, both emotionally and financially. The stress that a family goes through when someone is terminally ill is unbelievable, and it’s why in the film the surrounding nurses, friends  and, church are crucial players for the parents.

Sadly, stress isn’t just something that exists in the cinematic realm, so here’s a list of seven ways to feel less stressed on Stress Awareness Day which is November 2nd. Ready, set, go!

  1. Go For A Ten Minute Walk
It might seem a little too simple, but a walk is an easy way to boost endorphins, which in turn reduces stress hormones, and helps you stay healthy. Walking not only can get you some fresh air but, if outside can help you retain “involuntary attention,” which more or less means that something can hold your attention while allowing you to reflect. In fact, although it might seem counter-intuitive, walking increases energy and decreases fatigue, especially among people who lead a largely sedentary lifestyle. If you’re getting tired of sitting in your office chair, go for a walk!

  2. Grab A Bite
Yes, we are telling you to eat food! Referred to by doctors as the gut-brain axis, food and nourishment is incredibly important to your overall mental health. Plus, stress is an immune system related ailment, and the stomach is the largest organ in the immune system. Grab a handful of nuts, half of a chocolate bar, some berries, anything really that is high in nutrients and low in processed sugar.plant
  3. Pick A Plant
Maybe even name it something cute like Herbert. Whatever you choose to do, definitely invest in one for your work space and living arrangements, because plants really help detoxify the air around you. Just being around plants can induce a more relaxed state as well.                                                                                                                                                                     hobby
  4. Try A New Hobby
Have you always wanted to knit, paint, or sew? Now is your chance to utilize a little bit of each day to work on a hobby, preferably one that is small enough to carry with you, and use your hands for fifteen minutes instead of your brain. Try pottery or learn a few calming yoga positions, anything that will successfully take your mind off of the immediate stresses of your daily life. The repetitive action can become an almost meditative practice.                                                                    message
  5. Give Yourself A Scalp Massage
This one is pretty self-explanatory. Why you ask? Well first off, it mimics that amazing  feeling of relaxation you get when they shampoo your hair at the hair salon. Secondly, it releases oils in your hair that will condition the scalp making your hair look great. You will not only feel, but also LOOK better. What more could you want?                                                       turn-off-that-phone
  6. Turn Off That Phone
First off, some of the stress might be coming from the messages you’re getting on that phone, but there are a few other reasons as well. Using any type of screen for long periods of time without a break has been linked to increased stress, so try taking a short break, and maybe try any of the above tips. Most notably, the screen use is linked to stress, especially when it is used late at night or right before bed. So make sure to turn the screen off an hour before you sleep.                            laugh
  7. Laugh
Laughter releases endorphins, just like a walk, and also decreases cortisol levels as well as other stress levels. It also tricks your nervous system into thinking you’re happy. Better yet, don’t trick your body into laughing, go hang out with a friend, watch a movie, play with a dog and laugh for real. We, of course, would recommend a funny movie check out our page, like The Nightingale for a fun, family film. You’re welcome.
