Applause Beyond the Theater
The worldwide tour continues! In addition to previously announced plans for Swank Motion Pictures Inc. to release Applause on ships at sea, universities, hospitals, museums, trains, etc., beginning in September, a new deal is now in place to take the film to the sky. Entertainment In Motion, which supplies movies to more than 130 airlines around the world, will be adding Applause to its film catalogue for release beginning in January 2012. Management is pleased that two of the most prominent ancillary distribution companies in the industry will be bringing this film to such a wide audience.
Applause for Applause
Already a film festival and critics’ darling, APPLAUSE is now in high demand with film societies nationwide. World Wide has already arranged screenings for the Los Angeles and Cleveland Cinematheque groups, along with screening arrangements at the Victoria Film Festival in Canada, River City Cinema in Bangor, Maine, and the Film Society of Minn./St. Paul, and is currently in negotiations to bring the picture to additional cities. Further, the film has had the repeated honor of being invited back to numerous festivals as the showcase event and/or festival opening picture. Festivals and film societies interested in screening this award-winning Danish picture should contact World Wide’s executive offices at wwmpc@wwmpc.com.
A Funny Man for Koncern
Hot on the heels of their success with Applause, Mikael Christian Rieks, Martin Pieter Zandvliet, and Anders Frithiof August, the producer/director/screenwriter team that makes up Koncern Film (Denmark) has begun screening their next picture, A Funny Man. Set in the 1960s, the tale relates the experience of Dirch Passer, a comedian whose meteoric rise to fame brought the realization that it can be lonely at the top. The Danish language picture, which stars Nikolaj Lie Kaas, was shown privately at Cannes and will open in Denmark in August 2011.
Minneapolis Danish Come out Strong!
World Wide would like to thank the Danish American Center in Minneapolis, MN, for its outstanding support of Applause. During its June 5, Danish Day festivities, the DAC ran the trailer for the film on screens for the membership to see and promoted its Minneapolis release at the St. Anthony Main Theatre opening June 10. Additionally, the DAC promoted the picture with a great article on its website and included information about it on its e-newsletter. For information about the DAC, phone (612)-729-3800.
Back by Popular Demand to Florida
South Florida has been buzzing ever since Applause was shown there last month. By special request, the film will be returning to the Sunshine State for a special, two-week run in Miami! If you are in the area and you haven’t yet caught the picture, you can find it at the Tower Theater, a cultural landmark run by Miami Dade College, beginning Friday, June 3rd.
