Country Star: Willie Nelson Six Decade Award Winning Legend

 

On April 29th 1933, country star Willie Nelson was born and today we celebrate another special year! Not only has this singer and songwriter touched the hearts of many people through his hit songs like Crazy and On The Road Again but he has also extended his compassion to helping the animal kingdom. Nelson has been involved in various animal welfare groups like, Best Friends Animal Society and Animal Welfare Institute. He recorded the song Wild Horses to benefit the cause and show support. Not only did Willie Nelson make a huge contribution to the animal kingdom he also made a huge impact with movie fans all over the world with his broad range of acting skills.

Throughout his career, Willie Nelson has been in over 30 films ranging from Western classics like, Once Upon A Texas Train and Barbarosa to crime dramas such as Pair of Aces and Songwriter. His highest grossing film was the romantic drama Honeysuckle Rose, directed by Jerry Schatzberg. Nelson plays a country singer on the road caught in a love triangle between Dyan Cannon and Amy Irving. A few personal favorite films have to be The Big Bounce starring actors such as Owen Wilson, and Morgan Freeman and also the well known classic Welcome to Eden. Whether you’re a western, comedy, romance, crime drama, or action adventure fan, there’s a Willie Nelson film out there that will catch your attention. Willie has shown the world his incredible talent by giving the audience amazing music and movies that we can cherish forever.

After the huge success of his album Stardust in 1993, Nelson managed to get inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He’s worked alongside artists such as Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Julio Iglesias, and Waylon Jennings who have contributed to his success. Willie is known for many things such as being an American musician, actor, singer and songwriter, activist, poet and author. Willie Nelson is the definition of fine wine - all of his work gets better with age. He’s currently traveling the country, selling out concerts and singing his heart out to classics like Help Me Make it Through The Night and Always On My Mind. Willie has released more than 200 albums during his six decade career and is set to release his newest album, “Last Man Standing” on April 27th. Have you ever lost yourself in a record store? Looking at all the vinyls, wondering how a previous generation’s method of entertainment still exists in today’s society? With digital formats of music allowing us to simply buy music instantly onto our devices, it’s hard to think that vinyls would ever make a comeback or how it could still continue to exist. Yet, when you look around, vinyls are still pretty much thriving in our mainstream culture being displayed in stores like Forever21.

Founded in 2007, Record Store Day (RSD) is an annual event held on the third Saturday of April, celebrating the culture of independently-owned record stores. This year, Record Store Day will on April 16th, 2016. As tradition follows, RSD will have three tiers of exclusive releases of discs. The second album by The All-American Rejects released on July 12th, 2005. It had three top 15 singles, which helped the album become a double platinum.

In the soundtrack of Red Roses & Petrol, Flogging Molly plays a huge role in the film creating the ambience, atmosphere, and the mood. Flogging Molly based in Los Angeles, California is an Irish-American Celtic punk band. After the release of Red Roses  Petrol in 2003, Flogging Molly has continued to release three albums, “Within a Mile of Home”, “Float”, and “Speed of Darkness” with a new album in the making to be released in 2016 with their new single, “The Hand of John L. Sullivan,” honoring the Irish-American boxer.
