Romantic Gestures in Movies this Couple Appreciation Month

When Harry Met Sally - karaoke

April is a time for spring cleaning, April Fool’s pranks, and eating chocolate bunnies, but it’s also a time to appreciate that special someone in your life. April is officially Couple Appreciation month - it’s like Valentine's Day for thirty straight days.

Making a relationship last years or decades takes time and work. One of the biggest complains of couples in long-term relationships is that it’s lost the spark, and one party or both feels under-appreciated. After spending thousands of dollars on your wedding and honeymoon, some (men) may feel that all that needed to be expressed has been, but some (women) want more. Consistent and spontaneous signs of affections are key to keep a lasting, loving relationship.

From the simple morning rose or cup of coffee to romantic getaways, the range of affection and cost varies greatly. It’s often the simple things that have the greatest meaning. In pop culture, music and movies have celebrated the little things, like laying on beds together while shopping at Ikea (in (500) Days Of Summer), singing karaoke together (When Harry Met Sally), or giving jewelry as a gift (as in Pretty Woman). In Ways To Live Forever, young Kayleigh (Ella Purnell) takes Sam (Robbie Kay) to see the starry night sky from the local lighthouse, fulfilling one of his wishes to “go up and see the stars”.

There’s nothing like thinking about losing your loved one to make you hold on just a little tighter. In our modern society, technology has taken over our attention and taking the time to put them away and focus on your loved one is one of the easiest things to do and yet so hard to do. Television shows, movies, video games, social media and work are a few things that we put ahead of our loved ones’ needs. Take the time to love your special someone, and remember it’s the little things that count.
